House, "Bed", Sweater, Radio

A few updates to share: We have completed the building of the temporary house and now the 16 boys are able to eat, sleep, study, and live there.  Below is a photo of part of the stucture - the living quarters on the right, the kitchen on the left, and the bathrooms in the middle further back.  Yes, that is also a pull-up bar to the right of the three boys!  We plan to have a large field and expand to make a much permanent stucture in the future.

I am very sad to say that three great volunteers, who also happen to by three of my even better friends, had to leave Keumbu yesterday and travel back to America to return to life there.  Jake Altman, Michael Isaacson, and Mark Chen had a fabulous stay here with Arrive and did amazing work.  Before they left, they chose to buy a sweater for a boy named Ken (I gave him the nickname KenKen last year and it has stuck).  KenKen is in 4th grade and is one of my favorite students in school.  KenKen's father is HIV positive and his mother passed way from HIV many years ago.  KenKen is HIV positive and has been from birth. Their home has straw roofing and when it rains, KenKen (along with his 4 brothers and sisters, and father) gets soaking wet. Anyway, Jake, Mike, and Mark pitched in together and bought KenKen the sweater that he never had. Now he finally has a complete school uniform! Below is a photo of the volunteers and KenKen immediatly after they gave him the sweater (KenKen's father, family, and friends were also present, but not in the photo).  From left to right: Mark, KenKen, Jake, Mike.

Lastly, a BIG congrajulations to Pastor Robert.  Last night, he spoke on the radio, 102.4 SAYARE Station, from 7:40pm - 8:00pm (prime time).  This marks his return to radio, and his program was broadcasted in all parts of Kenya.  Below is a photo of Pastor Robert and most of the 25 children living here at home, huddled around the radio listening to Pastor as the radio broadcasted his booming voice. I can't wait to keep listening! If only his program could be broadcasted in America...
